Strategic In-market Partner ProgramWhy the Need for the Strategic In-market Partners Program? Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) prides itself on being among the most active trade development organizations in the world. Staff travels extensively across the globe, supporting Saskatchewan exporters in international business in over 70 countries. STEP already has an excellent network of international contacts through close working relationships with several hundred trade offices and embassies of the Canadian Consulate system and the Canada Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
As a compliment to this extensive trade development network, STEP is eager to further expand its international presence and networking capacity. It is an organization that prides itself on continuous improvement, and a desire to continuously enhance customer service for its members. Staff from STEP can not constantly be everywhere. Travel budgets must also be prudently managed to minimize organizational costs. STEP does not have the resources to finance permanent trade offices with dedicated expertise in every market. However it can draw upon the leverage and good will of key international contacts that can bring added expertise, skills and a special working knowledge of the Saskatchewan economy to become a more dedicated and secondary network to STEP. Building upon this voluntary network - many of whom are ex-patriots or international offices with strong historical ties to Saskatchewan - STEP will now offer even greater support to exporters from our province.
What is the Strategic In-market Partners Program? It is a voluntary network of international business offices which have demonstrated Saskatchewan knowledge and loyalty, proven reputations, and a strong in-market presence to provide further contacts and support to STEP staff and its traveling members. Over time this focused network of voluntary trade ambassadors will grow in every major market for Saskatchewan.
Who Gets to be Designated as a STEP Strategic In-market Partner? These added designations are selected very carefully by the President and CEO of STEP. They are based upon networking and referral through STEP’s awareness of strategic international contacts in key global markets. General criteria for consideration as a Strategic In-market Partner includes recognition of only those international offices with the following attributes:
- An established reputation and an impressive network of ongoing contacts and expertise in a strategic market for STEP.
- A strong familiarity with both the Saskatchewan and Canadian export sectors.
- A demonstrated interest and track record of support for the Saskatchewan economy, either as an expatriate or through past association and/or ongoing commitment to STEP as a Regular, Associate or Reciprocal Member. Past supporters of previous STEP missions and projects will also be considered.
- The company partner must have demonstrated expertise in a wide range of professional business services, and be capable of supporting a variety of international commercial interests and industry sectors.
- The designated partner company must have demonstrated business integrity, ethics, and a record of achievement through high quality service to customers.
How Do STEP Members Benefit from In-market Partnerships? All Strategic In-market Partners chosen by STEP will be able to offer the following services:
- Office hosting and coordination for STEP members while traveling in-market and visiting the area.
- Added briefing and consultation on the focused market opportunities.
- Regular sharing of potential market leads, and other strategic briefings and ongoing market intelligence to STEP.
- Assistance to help plan and coordinate in-market missions or in-bound missions from key global contacts and buyers to come visit Saskatchewan.
Why Will International Offices Agree to Provide Voluntary Services to STEP? As a Strategic In-market Partner, each designated foreign office will receive the following benefits and privileges through this special relationship with STEP:
- Higher profile and formal recognition as an In-market Partner of STEP through signage, business cards and STEP referral and communications to its members.
- Added briefing material and training on STEP programs and services to help the in-market partner serve as a more knowledgeable resource for potential buyers of Saskatchewan exports.
- Pre-qualification as a potential in-market consulting advisor on special projects, mission planning, and other services for STEP if and when more detailed and targeted services may be required.
- Other potential partnerships.
