Murray Daku was born and raised in Saskatchewan and received his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1987. For the past 15 years with Hitachi, he has been extensively involved with sales and business development on an international level in addition to other progressive senior management responsibilities. He has substantial international business experience including a one year work term in Japan as well as substantial international travel. Prior to his employment at Hitachi, he has worked for an engineering consulting firm performing engineering and construction management services for industrial clients in the Toronto region.

Cory Furman practices intellectual property law with a focus on domestic and foreign patent, trademark and copyright protection and enforcement, as well as international intellectual property portfolio strategy planning and the IP-related aspects of commercial transactions.  As a registered patent and trademark agent, Cory represents clients before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office in various patent, trademark and copyright matters. His clients range from individuals to multinational corporations to education and research institutions. Much of Cory’s general advising on portfolio strategies involves cross-border issues with the United States and elsewhere.  Beyond advising clients upon and assisting with the implementation of intellectual property strategies in Canada and abroad, Cory also provides transactional support to parties in various corporate finance and other commercial transactions including validity, infringement, freedom to operate and other due diligence topics.

Ngee Cau moved back to Regina In July 2006, to join MarkeTel Multi-Line Dialing Systems Ltd. as the CEO. Ngee was in Shanghai, China where he was with Microsoft in the Global Outsourcing Team responsible for Microsoft outsourcing strategies for Asia Pacific. Prior to Microsoft he was with Nortel Networks based in Hong Kong and Vancouver, Canada.  Ngee grew up in Regina but went to the University of British Columbia for both his Bachelor of Commerce and International MBA degrees from the University of British Columbia. He began his career in the high tech industry at Nortel Networks in Vancouver, BC.

Dale Lemke

Dale Lemke founded Display Systems International in 1983.  He designed and developed the first product called a character generator, which was software that was burned into a cartridge, which turned the Atari game machine into a cable TV advertising and information display system. DSI continues to develop software products compatible with Windows Operating Systems that are used by the cable and private cable TV industry for advertising channels, community events and program listings. Over the last 22 years, about 95% of DSI’s sales have been made in the US. Dale Lemke also co-founded Terminal Systems International in 1997, with a partner. TSI has developed software products that are used by airports to faciliate arrival and display functions. TSI has over 30 installations in airports around the world, in countries such as the US, Mexico, Taiwan, Ecuador, Dominican Republic and Canada. Dale is a founding member of SATA (the Saskatchewan Advanced Technology Association) and the Provincial Exporters Association.

Tim Wiens provides the leadership for O & T Farms. Tim is active in both industry organizations and the community. He has been the Saskatchewan director for the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency (CEMA) and is past chair of the Saskatchewan Egg Board. In 2000, Tim was elected as a director for the Canadian Western Agribition. He has also served on a number of committees including the Chamber of Commerce’s Action Saskatchewan Plan, the Regina Regional Economic Development Association and as a director of Prairie Diagnostic Services.

Shannon Jakes has a strong understanding of the opportunities presented to, and the challenges faced by Saskatchewan’s entrepreneurs, in her current role as Senior Manager, CIBC Commercial Banking.  Having lived and worked in Saskatchewan all her life, she has held a number of senior positions within various financial institutions over the past 24 years.  For the majority of her career, she has focused her efforts primarily in the area of commercial financial services, and has had the privilege of working directly with a diverse group of clients operating in a wide range of industries. Shannon takes great pride in cultivating solid and trusting relationships with her clientele, and remains active in a number of charitable and community organizations.  In addition to the STEP Board, she also currently serves as a Director of the Saskatoon Downtown Business Improvement District.

Greg Larson was born and raised in Saskatchewan.  After acquiring a Retail Meat Cutting Certificate from Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon, Greg moved back to Leross, SK to assist his father with the family-owned abattoir and was able to increase productivity, decrease staff and bring the company from a position of loss to profit. He spent some time researching how the hide market functioned and what it would take to launch his own hide business. Larson Hides was incorporated in 1990 and has been growing and expanding continually. In 2004, Greg purchased the abattoir from his family and began a custom processing business and continues to operate Larson’s Abattoir and Larson Hides. Greg has served on the local REDA board for several years as well as the local and divisional school boards.

Paul Degelman is a second generation member to operate the family business, Degelman Industries Ltd.  He has been involved with the family business for over 25 years.  His work ethic and attitude were instilled from an early age as he began his career as a farm helper at the Degelman Farms near Raymore, Saskatchewan.  He holds a great amount of respect for the farming profession in Saskatchewan.  Paul has worked in multiple areas of the organization most notably as a product specialist working closely with the research and development team.  Paul is currently the Sales and Marketing Manager at Degelman Industries Ltd. responsible for worldwide sales.

Greg Menzies was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. Greg is the President and CEO of Wigmore.  This sizeable operation with over a century of family ownership is regarded as one of the largest Kabuli chickpea producers in the province as well as being a large lentil producer and other more traditional crops. Wigmore is also involved in processing and marketing pulse products internationally.  Greg has many years of international business development, sales and marketing at a senior management level prior to starting the Wigmore Farm export activity.

Sandra Purdy is President of Prairie Berries Inc. a vertically integrated agriculture business that grows, processes, and markets Saskatoon berry products domestically and internationally. She is actively involved in the Saskatchewan Fruit Growers Association and was a director on the board for six years and sat as president for 3 years.  Recently, Sandra established the Saskatoon Berry Council of Canada, to act as a voice for the industry, create market awareness, establish marketing strategy for Saskatoon Berries outside Western Canada and determine what research is necessary to promote the attributes of Saskatoon berries.

Alanna Koch was appointed Deputy Minister of Saskatchewan Agriculture, effective November 27, 2007. She previously served as President of the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance (CAFTA), an organization that advocates a more open and fair trading environment for agriculture and agri-food products. From 2003-2007, she served as a farmer director on the board of Agricore United. Prior to that she was Executive Director of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association for eight years; a director of the George Morris Centre at the University of Guelph; involved in the development of agricultural extension services in Atlantic Canada; a national judge for Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers’ program; and a committee member of Canadian Western Agribition. She also served nine years with the Government of Saskatchewan in a number of senior positions. Alanna is a graduate of the Canadian Agriculture Lifetime Leadership (CALL) program.

Chris obtained an Honours Degree in Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan. Following graduation, he worked in marketing with Maple Leaf Foods in Edmonton and as the Market Research Analyst with the North Battleford Local Economic Development Authority. Chris has worked in the provincial government as Executive Assistant to the Minister of Revenue and Financial Services and the Minister of Health. He was appointed Assistant Press Secretary to the Premier and also served as the Director of Communications, and then Chief of Staff in the Office of the Official Opposition. In 1996, Chris became the Manager of the Communications Branch for the City of Saskatoon where he produced numerous provincial and national award-winning communication strategies. Chris was appointed to the position of Manager of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Special Projects in 2005. His duties included project manager for the popular River Landing redevelopment initiative. Chris returned to the Government of Saskatchewan in March 2009 as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Enterprise Saskatchewan, the new special operation agency of the provincial government responsible for economic development. On July 16, 2010, Chris was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Saskatchewan. He is an Accredited Public Relations Practitioner (APR), past-president of the Saskatoon Chapter of the Canadian Public Relations Society, and a past-director on the National Board of the Canadian Public Relations Society.

Doug Matthies is a member of the Saskatchewan Institute of Chartered Accountants. As a professional accountant, he worked in the private sector providing services to  privately held businesses and publicly traded enterprises. His career in government started in 1988, when he joined the Saskatchewan Pension Plan as Director of Finance, and later became its General Manager.  In 1992, Doug moved to the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation, initially as its Comptroller and two years later became the General Manager. Doug is also a member of several Boards and agencies, including the Saskatchewan Grain Car Corporation, the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership, the Agriculture Development Fund, the Saskatchewan Food Centre Inc., and the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation. Doug graduated with Distinction from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Administration.
