Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is the federal department responsible for economic development and diversification in the West. WD promotes the development of the Western Canadian economy and advances the interests of the West in national economic policy. WD relies upon its strong relationships with provincial governments, municipalities, universities, local businesses and community organizations to encourage growth and innovation in the four western provinces. WD is a member of the Western Canada Business Service Network, which includes offices of Community Futures Development Corporations, the Women's Enterprise Initiative, Francophone Economic Development Organizations and the Canada Business Service Centres. Each of these organizations provides services to assist new and existing entrepreneurs in cities and rural communities to create and grow their businesses. WD works with the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) to help Saskatchewan business grow beyond provincial and national borders.
