The Agri-Value Marketing Internship Program is designed to address some of the issues facing business and future employees in Saskatchewan.

The program will assist agri-value small and medium sized enterprises in the completion of market development projects by providing financial assistance for hiring marketing interns. (The program is not designed to fund sales associate positions).

The interns could come from graduate students or recent graduates (within 5 years) of Saskatchewan’s two Universities. This will provide a cost effective means for business to develop strong marketing initiatives focusing on quality processes for new products and markets with educated interns who have developed a level of business acumen. It will also provide the interns with valuable work experience in real life marketing situations – a chance to put into practice the business skills they have developed.

Eligible Costs

Intern’s Salary Costs

  • The program will fund new contract internships based on acceptance of a proposed project. The program is not designed to finance hiring that has already taken place.
  • The funding will be 50% of the intern’s monthly salary up to a maximum of $1500 per month. It is designed to relieve some of the financial pressure of hiring new staff dedicated to developing programs and initiatives whose return on investment may be farther into the future.
  • [The employer is expected to make all mandatory employment related contributions such as EI, CPP, etc.]

Employers considering use of this program should consult about their eligibility prior to making any final hiring decision. All hiring activities will be the responsibility of the employer.

Intern’s Travel Costs

There is also an option of applying for additional funds to assist with travel costs for the intern to complete in-market development activities related to research. These funds will cover up to 50 percent of travel costs (flights, accommodations, translation and interpretation) up to a maximum level of $3000.

Each company may receive program funding to a maximum of 16 months over the three year span of the program (2006 – 2009). Term lengths may typically consist of 4, 8 or 12 months with any single intern employed no less than 4 months and no longer than 12 months.

Funding

Funding for this program is provided by Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture. Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is committed to building our agri-value businesses and developing employment opportunities across the agri-food sector.
