Summary

FOCUS: Federal, Provincial, Territorial and Municipal Procurement.

Additional information is included pertaining to the Western provinces' NEW WEST PARTNERSHIP taking effect July 1st, 2010.

The following report contains an overview of federal, provincial and territorial government procurement in Canada. The purchasing and procurement function within government is performed differently across provinces and territories. Some provinces and territories exercise highly consolidated and centralized purchasing, while others leave the responsibility for procurement in the hands of individual departments. When available, information is provided on MASH sector organizations. MASH sector organizations include: municipalities, hospitals, educational boards and institutions and social service organizations. It is important that Canadian and international businesses understand a province's or territory's procurement practices before bidding on potential procurement opportunities. This document is intended to act as a guide for private enterprises thinking about doing business with Canadian government entities.

The information located within this guide has been sourced from a number of secondary resources including government websites and online directories.
